Chris Lynn‘s The clouds have settled in (Just Not Normal) is a classic-styled field recording album. I have not come across Lynn’s work before, which is solely the responsibility of this blogger, but it is a problem which is easily fixed. The stark plainness of the cover corresponds extremely well with The clouds have settled in as the album accurately depicts the bareness and simplicity of life. From Just Not Normal’s curator Mark Stolk’s liner notes, “Having heard this now a few times there is a timidness in these recordings, something that nourishes the listeners ears and soul and refreshes the mind.” Lynn’s openness to grasp at the commonplace makes The clouds have settled in worthwhile.
