The story behind Juraj Kojs’ Yale (aReW Recordings) is just as interesting as the music itself. Recorded at Yale University during Spring 2010, Kojs took the university’s motto of Lux et veritas (Light and truth) as his inspiration by making field recordings in various spots of light on the campus. As the artist explains in the liner notes, “The album’s focus lies in exposing the raw aspects of the everyday sounds, the recording methods and basic processing techniques.” Yale is far from a standard field recording album as Kojs succesfully evokes new sounds, many of which are heavily manipulated, out of the ordinary sounds he recorded.
